GitHub Profile Builder
Personal · 2026 · Completed
Open-source platform to edit your GitHub profile and build your profile README from templates, with a live preview and a review step before any change is applied.

Goal
Help developers polish how their GitHub profile looks: edit profile details, build the profile README from templates, check the preview and only then apply it. Nothing changes on GitHub until the user confirms it on the review screen.
What it does
- Creates drafts from the current profile (up to 50 per account), which can be renamed, duplicated and deleted.
- Edits name, bio, company, location, website, X username, public email and social links, with a live profile card preview.
- Generates the profile README with three templates (Classic, Minimal and Compact), in English or Portuguese, with sections that can be turned on, turned off and reordered.
- Offers a 200-item technology catalog, up to 6 public repositories as projects, icons for 25 contact networks and up to 5 custom sections.
- Shows a review screen with what changes in each part, with the current and the new README side by side.
Technical decisions
- Nothing changes without confirmation. Profile, social links and README are sent to the GitHub API separately and checked right after. Success is only reported once the change shows up on GitHub; if something fails, the screen shows what was applied and what was not.
- Preview matches the result. A single function generates the README, the same one used to publish it, so the preview is exactly what goes to GitHub. Rendering uses GitHub’s own Markdown API.
- Token kept out of the database. Sign-in uses GitHub OAuth and the access token lives only in the encrypted session cookie (iron-session), never in the database. Drafts are stored in PostgreSQL (Neon) with Drizzle ORM, linked to the GitHub account ID.
- Minimal permissions. Only the
userscope, to edit the profile and read verified emails, andpublic_repo, to create and update the public README repository. - Bilingual interface. English and Portuguese with next-intl, language kept in a cookie, and light and dark themes that follow the system.
Quality and delivery
- Vitest tests for README generation, planning and applying changes, the GitHub API client, OAuth and drafts.
- Deployed on Vercel, in the
gru1region (São Paulo). - Open source under the MIT license.
